We have an exciting position available for a dynamic Ship Chandling Business Unit manager. This is an executive role reporting directly to the Chandling Operations Manager. The group of companies has been growing consistently for a number of years and they have ambitious plans for further expansion of the Chandling division over the next 2 to 5 years which you will be an integral part of.

 

The Business Unit Manager will be in charge of the overall management and business development / growth of the Ship Chandling Business Unit for South Africa (all ports) by implementing the group commercial strategy as well as ensuring a smooth and robust ground operation out of their Cape Town facility. Their offshore supply service to various vessels includes both in food and Industrial goods. 

Not only does the group operate in various other industries, but they also have a footprint in many African countries which offers further room for personal growth or even the opportunity to work as an expat in future.

Position details:

Type: Permanent
Reports to: Operations Manager
Travel requirements: Minimal, approximately twice per year (national).

Missions & responsibilities

Key areas of responsibilities within the overall function of the BU Manager: 

1. Operations Management

Ensure optimal client satisfaction:

- Ensure positive clients ‘relationship, entertaining all clients’ request, issues arising from operations.

- Supply chain coordination, local and international procurement with group entities and third parties.

- Ensure complete and on time order deliveries.

- Establish and implements logistics planification.

- Ensure the compliance to all statutory obligations. 

2. Management

a. Responsible of the overall BU profitability across the various activities including:

- Budget control.

- P&L monitoring.

b. HR

- Assist with necessary recruitment to ensure optimal and profitable service delivery.

- Participate in regular personal evaluations, KPI appraisals.

- With OM, manage absenteeism, poor performance and any HR related issues.

- Stay within the South African legislation. 

3. Warehouse and Stock management

a. Implementation of group processes, strict daily, weekly, monthly inventory management.

b. Review & implementation of supply options (local & international procurement) and optimal stock holding requirements.

c. Define and implement optimal warehouse management and organisation.

d. Ensure cold chain is preserved and adherence to food health regulations international best practices. 

4. Commercial Development

a. Promotion of all the products’ ranges.

b. Commercial follow up to develop sales.

c. Planification with the team of commercial actions and reporting on results.

Job Qualifications, Skills & Experience:


Qualifications:

- Tertiary education.

- Speaks fluent English.

- Demonstrated experience (5 years+) in supply chain management.

- Preferably food industry background.

- Experience in export, shipping, vessel management/operation a plus. 

Key competencies:

- Ability to establish and manage processes.

- Communicate well on all levels.

- Solution provider and resourceful.

- Efficient and effective individual.
